J. Peter Bergman was the Executive Director of the Edna St. Vincent Millay Society at Steepletop From 2007 through 2013 where he created all programs, exhibits, publications and the actual historic house museum in Austerlitz, NY. A published playwright (Maids in the Mills), novelist (Small Ironies) and poet, he currently works in the home of one America's great authors, Herman Melville - Arrowhead in Pittsfield, MA - where Melville wrote "Moby-Dick" and his subsequent novels, short stories and some of his poetry.For his collection of short fiction, COUNTERPOINTS, 1999, he received the Friends of Charles Dickens, New York award for fiction in 2002.
He leads a poetry workshop at Arrowhead and did the same thing for six years at Steepletop. A new chapbook of poems will be published in June.
