Ally Dowds

Ally Dowds is currently employed as the head librarian at Bay State Correctional Center, a medium security, all male, state prison. Ally received her Master's in Library Science from Simmons College in 2010 and has worked in the MA Department of Corrections for 4 years. Three years ago, she and Jill McDonough created the Poetry Group at Bay State to foster a healthy, creative outlet for inmates to freely express their opinions, emotions, and convictions while learning the ins and outs of the poetry world. Ally facilitates several other prison programs such as the Art Group, Reach Out & Read (family literacy), and ABLE MINDS, an inmate book discussion group focused on consequential thinking.
